Out of every character you can unlock in Granblue Fantasy: Relink, the best ones to recruit first are those with versatile skills and abilities. There are twelve crewmates you can add to your party, but you only have a limited number of spots on your team. You’ll have to consider what each character brings to battle and determine if their strengths will synergize with other crew members.
Characters are unlocked through Crewmate Cards or special items you get from progressing through the story and completing optional quests. It takes time to get enough cards to recruit every crewmate, so you may only have 3 to 4 cards until the late chapters of the game. This encourages you to be careful and only choose party members who you know will benefit your team the most in Granblue Fantasy: Relink.
Main characters like Gran, Djeeta, and Katalina will already be available for you to use, but they are not required to complete missions once you have a larger roster.
Granblue Fantasy: Relink is a pleasant surprise of an RPG with excellent combat that proves it’s more than just a game with good looks.
Ignore Enemy Debuffs
Siegfried is a character powered by dragon’s blood wielding a massive greatsword, which already implies that he can dish out some heavy damage. One of the draws to this highly anticipated 2024 RPG is that each crewmate has unique combat skills you can master in Granblue Fantasy: Relink. For Siegfried, this is seen through his attacks, where you can time attacks precisely to deal more damage and stun enemies.
The active skill Salvator unique to Siegfried gives your party immunity to enemy debuffs and another buff called Drain. Having immunity to debuffs can be critical against bosses, who could make your team vulnerable with different effects, or even stop them in their tracks with freeze and other status ailments. On the other hand, Drain causes your crewmates to regain health while pressing the attack in Granblue Fantasy: Relink.
Repeat Powerful Air Attacks
One of the most balanced crew members you can recruit is Zeta, whose powerful spear Arvess has a lot of different applications. Zeta tends to stick in the air, chaining together straightforward but effective strikes on enemies in Granblue Fantasy: Relink. A skilled enough player can stay in the skies for an entire quest by using Zeta’s aerial moves and become nearly impossible for enemies to hit.
Zeta is very similar to Percival, another crew member you could recruit. Percival could be a better option to unlock early for anyone looking for a party member focused on balanced combos rather than aerial offense.
Zeta also has a buff skill that applies a damage boost to herself and nearby allies for a decent amount of time. The young member of the Society also has several parries that you can activate to counter enemy strikes. This wide range of techniques allows you to build Zeta in a few ways when you upgrade her weapons and apply Sigils in Granblue Fantasy: Relink to her character as you progress.
Support and Summon
Long-range fighters are always appreciated in Granblue Fantasy: Relink, which makes Ferry a great character to unlock for early quests. This crew member specializes in summoning allies in the form of her many ghost pets. Each minion you conjure can do a variety of tasks, like defend Ferry, cause huge Area of Effect (AoE) damage to enemies, or even inflict a few debuffs on your foes.
The best ability Ferry has might be the healing skill she can activate to recover health for everyone on your team. Powerful bosses within this recent 2024 RPG title hit hard, but having a party member that can revive your best fighters gives you a way to keep battles going. Ferry is excellent for fights against hordes of minions, but this effect gives you a great reason to add her to boss fights as well.
Stun Bosses Quickly
Similar to Zeta, Ghandagoza has plenty of offensive abilities that make him a high-damage dealer for your team. However, this character trades speed for bruising critical strikes to stun enemies faster than nearly any potential crewmate in Granblue Fantasy: Relink. The DPS may be a bit lower overall, but your team will certainly make up for it by unleashing strong abilities on staggered opponents.
A hidden mechanic in combat for Granblue Fantasy: Relink is tied to Link Time, a state where you and your allies gain positive status effects. Enemies move much slower during Link Time, but you need to reach a Link Level of 100% to start this condition. Ghandagoza’s stunning attacks raise Link Level faster than other characters and give you more opportunities to enter Link Time throughout a fight.
Other ways to raise Link Level are to land Link Attacks on foes, trigger a Chain Burst, use a Blue Potion, or rescue a teammate from a critical condition.
Use Defense and Offense Equally
Narmaya is a katana-wielding swordswoman who switches between different, versatile stances in Granblue Fantasy: Relink. While she may seem an intimidating character to master early in the game, the flexibility in her playstyle is what makes her a great crew member to unlock near the start. Narmaya excels as a DPS or Tank build in equal measure depending on what role you want her to play in fights.
Unlike some of the other characters mentioned, Narmaya is one of the best teammates for an AI-controlled party member. Some warriors have detailed skills that take a human hand to use properly, but Narmaya’s basic strategy for fights makes her an excellent character for solo players. The reliable damage she deals in Granblue Fantasy: Relink will be appreciated as you try to take down bosses in difficult quests.
Distract and Protect
The protective knight Vane uses unorthodox taunts and defensive maneuvers to distract enemies away from his allies. An excellent crew member for those who love playing with their friends online, Vane provides a unique kind of support for battles in Granblue Fantasy: Relink. Drawing away the aggro of enemies and bosses gives the rest of your team a chance to pour on attacks of their own without fear of interruption.
According to a video by YouTube creator Varsona, Vane also has the ability to cleanse and heal his own wounds in battle. This character also has access to an invulnerable shield that protects allies who are trying to set up larger buffs or attacks. These skills make Vane an absolute powerhouse against even the strongest bosses you can encounter in Granblue Fantasy: Relink.
Master Speed on the Battlefield
Speed and DPS go hand in hand for a character like Lancelot in Granblue Fantasy: Relink, who shines in nearly any type of quest. Lancelot uses water-type strikes in quick succession to rapidly apply damage faster than nearly any crew member in the game. Consistently pressing the attack button causes your strikes to gain more and more speed, allowing you to chain an unrelenting assault on your enemies.
Another great benefit of having Lancelot on your team is his ability to freeze your opponents where they stand in Granblue Fantasy: Relink. Fast enemies can be locked down for easy damage by the rest of your team, which can help a lot during early quests. Agile foes are matched in kind by Lancelot, who dodges fluidly during combination attacks to move freely on the battlefield and avoid enemy attacks with ease.
Free time is a luxury, but the best expansive RPGs on PC make it well-worth spending with engaging journeys and interesting possibilities.
Aid Your Friends and Deal Damage
The best character to recruit first in Granblue Fantasy: Relink is Charlotta for her capacity to fill nearly any role in your party. Charlotta can buff allies, deal tons of damage, and lower enemy traits through effective debuffs. This Paladin knight from the Lumiel Order combines jumping strikes with wide slashing sword attacks that hit hard and fast for some of the best DPS in the game.
Similar to Lancelot, Charlotta strikes faster the more you mash an attacking button during combat. With the right weapon upgrades and Sigils to strengthen her moves, you’ll be inflicting more damage than your team can keep up with in certain situations. The best characters you should unlock first in Granblue Fantasy: Relink are the ones who can tackle almost every quest on their own.
