Baghead Trailer

“Talk to the dead. Pay the price.” Leave the dead alone! Studiocanal has revealed the first official trailer for a creepy new supernatural horror film called Baghead, created by Spanish filmmaker Alberto Corredor. (Not to be confused with the Duplass Brothers’ indie classic Baghead from 2008.) From the producer of IT and Barbarian, meet Baghead in this new horror thriller. Following the death of her father, a young woman inherits a run-down pub & discovers a dark secret hidden down in its basement: Baghead – a shapeshifting creature that will let you speak to lost loved ones, but not without consequence. Danger! Yeah this sounds super frightening. Freya Allan stars as Iris, with a cast including Ruby Barker, Ned Dennehy, Peter Mullan, Jeremy Irvine, Saffron Burrows, and Svenja Jung. This looks like it gets crazy once they let this woman out of the basement, even though that’s exactly what her dad told her not to do. Tread carefully.

Here’s the first official trailer (+ poster) for Alberto Corredor’s Baghead, from Studiocanal’s YouTube:

After the death of her estranged father, Iris (Freya Allan) learns she has inherited a run-down, centuries-old pub. She travels to Berlin to identify her father’s body and meet with The Solicitor (Ned Dennehy) to discuss the estate. Little does she know, when the deed is signed she will become inextricably tied to an unspeakable entity residing in the pub’s basement. Baghead – a shape-shifting creature that can transform into the dead. Two thousand in cash for two minutes with the creature is all it takes for desperate loved ones to ease their grief. Neil (Jeremy Irvine), who has lost his wife, is Iris’ first customer. Like her father, Iris is tempted to exploit the creature’s powers and help desperate people for a price. But she discovers breaking the two-minute rule can have terrifying consequences. Together with her best friend Katie (Ruby Barker), Iris must battle for control of Baghead & figure out how to destroy her, before she destroys them.

Baghead is directed by Spanish genre filmmaker Alberto Corredor, making his feature directorial debut adapting his own short of the same name. The screenplay is written by Christina Pamies and Bryce McGuire; based on the short film written by Lorcan Reilly. Produced by Alex Heineman (A Million Little Pieces, Come Play, Gunpowder Milkshake, Re) and Andrew Rona. This hasn’t premiered at any festivals or elsewhere, as far we know, with an opening in Germany first at the end of December. Studiocanal will debut Baghead in international cinemas starting January 2024 – stay tuned for an exact release date in the US. Scared yet?
