Kano was a fan-favorite character in the first Mortal Kombat movie, and the franchise may have already provided an explanation for how he can return in Mortal Kombat 2. Despite clearly dying in the 2021 movie, it has already been confirmed that Kano will be returning in Mortal Kombat 2. This has left some fans puzzled, as it wouldn’t make sense to bring back a character that has already died. However, 2021’s Mortal Kombat hints at how Kano’s fate could be reversed in Mortal Kombat 2.

Mortal Kombat 2 is on the way, with the highly-anticipated sequel to the first entry in the fighting game movie series adaptation bringing in a lot of elements that were missing from the original. Notably, Johnny Cage will appear in Mortal Kombat 2, with the iconic character shockingly not having a role in the first film at all. While plenty of new Mortal Kombat characters will undoubtedly return in the sequel, the film is also attempting to bring back some old characters. Kano is one of the most notable characters, as the sequel will have to find a way to work around his death.

Shang Tsung Could Resurrect Kano In Mortal Kombat 2

Although he is dead, it is possible that Shang Tsung could resurrect Kano in Mortal Kombat 2. Shang Tsung was the main antagonist of the first film, with him overseeing the various fighters who attempt to kill the champions of Earthrealm. At one point, Shang Tsung mentions that “death is just another portal to Raiden, implying that death isn’t the end in the Mortal Kombat universe. This line makes it clear that dead characters can come back in Mortal Kombat, meaning that anyone can return.

So, for Kano to come back in Mortal Kombat 2, Shang Tsung simply has to find a way to resurrect him. For a powerful sorceror, this should be no problem. The villain has plenty of reason to bring Kano back to the land of the living as well. Kano was one of Tsung’s strongest fighters, with him helping with the invasion of Earthrealm. Bringing him back for a second round would be a good strategic move, one that Shang Tsung might make.

Tsung may be plotting to do another invasion of Earthrealm, and while having more fighters might help, bringing Kano along would help as well.
