Executive producer Kevin Wright explains how Ke Huy Quan’s new character fits into the world of the TVA and why he’ll be everyone’s new favorite, not just in Loki but in the MCU. Loki first introduced the TVA last season, and the former Asgardian God of Mischief shook up the long-running agency by asking questions and revealing long-hidden truths. It seems this will continue in the second season, and with the addition of OB, the series will further explore the world of the TVA.

In an exclusive interview with Screen Rant for Loki season 2, Wright raved about Ke Huy Quan joining the cast. He discussed bringing a new dynamic to the cast. Wright also explained how his character, OB, builds out the world of the TVA and how he fits into the inner workings of the agency. Check out Wright’s full quote below:

Kevin Wright: I’ve been saying I think he’s about to be everyone’s favorite new MCU character.

But no, the exciting thing was like … Look, and I think it would be intimidating for a lot of actors to come in and try to find their footing in a dynamic that was already as strong as what Tom and Owen had and what our whole ensemble had. There was a real just great vibe that already existed. And Ke and OB, I think one, we just wanted to expand out the world of the TVA, dive deeper into the lore of you look around and it’s like, “Who is keeping all of this running?” It’s all this old tech.

There’s something very exciting about just learning more about that, the idea of this guy who’s been locked in a basement for 400 years just working away. So he’s a little bit eccentric, a little bit of an oddball was always in the script. And I think the great thing was when Ke decided to join us. He really kind of took ownership of this thing and put so much of himself into it the way that Owen has put himself into Mobius and Tom has famously put his heart and soul into Loki for the last 12 years now. He just found a way to make that his own and do his own thing with it in a way that’s been awesome.

How Loki Season 2 Can Build Out The TVA

Loki Season 2 Ke Huy Quan

If OB shows the inner workings of how the TVA works, the series can further build upon the foundation established in the first season. Loki showed that everything the people of the TVA believed was wrong in the first season, especially when he revealed that the Time Keepers are in fact robots. OB will be able to show the system that has been put in place for the TVA and how it has run flawlessly for so long.

The second season of Loki can show how the people of the TVA react to the news that they are in fact variants themselves and what that means not only for their own lives but for the multiverse at large. OB could help them further examine what they know about the TVA and discover new truths about this enigmatic agency. Loki may also have new information for them to dig into after meeting He Who Remains.

Loki’s first season ended with Mobius and Hunter B-15 not recognizing the titular character, which could mean that killing He Who Remains changed things on the timeline. It is also possible that the time door Sylvie kicked him through dumped him out somewhere unexpected. This could make OB instrumental in helping Loki figure out where or when he is, as well as how to get back to the people he has grown to care about.
