Hard to believe but it has been four years since Marvel announced Mahershala Ali as the next Blade at Comic Con in 2019, and in all the time since there’s seemingly been little progress on it.

The film has been famously hit by development woes as several writers have come and gone, as has at least one director and potential start date.

At last report, filming was all set to begin in June in Atlanta until the writer’s strike shut it down – making it the first tentpole movie impacted by the strike which ended last week after five months.

It was also indicated a while back that “True Detective” creator/writer Nic Pizzolatto had been set to pen the latest rewrite, following the likes of Stacy Osei-Kuffour, Michael Starrbury and Beau DeMayo who had a crack at it.

Now, World of Reel reports that another rewrite has now been called for by Marvel, one said to be “a total revamp of the last draft”.

French filmmaker Yann Demange (“71”) remains attached to direct the project which was also going to star Mia Goth, Delroy Lindo and Aaron Pierre before the shutdown took place.

The new “Blade” is currently slated for a February 14th 2025 release and could make it depending upon how much longer the actor’s strike goes and how soon after they can get back to work filming it.
