Loki season 2 executive producer Kevin Wright seems to tease that Victor Timely will be the only Kang variant in the new season after introducing He Who Remains in the first season. Kang is being set up as the next major Avengers-level threat, with the heroes expected to face off against him in both Avengers: Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars. He was first introduced as He Who Remains in the first season finale of Loki. Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania brought in Kang the Conqueror and showed countless other variants waiting in the wings.

During an exclusive interview with Screen Rant about the second season of Loki, Wright discussed Victor Timely. He seemed to indicate this will be the only Kang variant in the new season. Wright also explained how Victor Timely is different from Majors’ performance as He Who Remains in the first season of Loki. Check out Wright’s full quote below:

Kevin Wright: This season, [Victor Timely’s] the only one that we’ve seen. Between the two … But here’s the thing between the two, I can’t pick. That’s like choosing children. He Who Remains was so well done in season 1 and so exciting, and I thought those conversations were so thrilling, but we get to live with Victor longer this season. I just think there’s a lot, and we can understand that character more.

Loki Season 2 Won’t Rely On Kang Variants

Jonathan Majors as Victor Timely in teaser for Loki season 2

The council of Kangs was introduced at the end of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, with countless variants waiting to attack now that Loki and Sylvie opened the door and Scott Lang took out a major threat. The new season of Loki could take the opportunity to set up their impending incursion, but it seems that won’t be the focus. This likely means that Loki season 2 will once again focus on a larger time-based mystery as well as the characters already established.

Victor Timely, the new Kang variant, was also introduced in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania very briefly. However, unlike He Who Remains, whom Sylvie killed off relatively quickly, Victor Timely could be fleshed out in the second season. This is a character who likely doesn’t know about the larger picture of the multiverse and time travel but instead seems to be an inventor. With He Who Remains gone, he could serve an important role at the TVA in some capacity as well.

If Loki is meant to set up Avengers: Kang Dynasty, this could happen in a potential third season, with Loki and the TVA facing the ramifications of Sylvie’s actions. He Who Remains did warn them that by killing him, they would allow these other variants to thrive, opening the door to a new war among the timelines. If the second season of Loki is focused on Victor Timely, it could be an opportunity to show a new side of this character that up until now has been painted in a more sinister light, especially based not only on his actions but also on his knowledge about the multiverse, both as He Who Remains and Kang the Conqueror.
