“The Shallows,” “Jungle Cruise” and “Black Adam” director Jaume Collet-Serra has been hired to helm an untitled period action thriller that will likely star Emily Blunt as pioneering female detective Kate Warne.

Amazon MGM Studios, Seven Bucks Productions and With a K Productions are backing the project which follows Warne, the first female detective at the Pinkerton agency.

Warne paved the way for future women in law enforcement and forever changed how detective work was done. Melissa Stack (“The Other Woman”) wrote the screenplay from a previous draft by Gustin Nash.

Blunt will produce but hasn’t locked her deal to star yet due to the strikes. Once they are over, negotiations are expected to resume. Dwayne Johnson, Kristina Sorensen, Hiram Garcia and Dany Garcia are producing.

Collet-Serra has also helmed films like “House of Wax,” “Orphan” and several Liam Neeson action films. Blunt recently appeared in Prime Video’s western miniseries “The English,” Christopher Nolan’s “Oppenheimer” and will be seen next week in Netflix’s “Pain Hustlers”.
